akima1996-residentsaidThis is something that has been a huge irritant for me, and from what I hear from others, for them as well. Meta and Power gaming is well defined in our SIM rules, but what about God modding? You might have another word for it, but it seems to me a difficult problem to fix. So what is it? What I call God modding, is simply never allowing anything to prevent your character from achieving what you were planning to do. For example: you are in a fight and you can't be hit because you just have mad skills and Bruce Lee like moves. Another would be that you commit a crime and insist that there is absolutely no possible way the cops could track you down cause you are just that good. Two god modders in a fight are funny, cause neither one will take a hit. A god modder fighting a normal player is depressing cause the normal player will get beat down and never had a chance. A god modding criminal will end up running the town, cause they can't be caught. (by the way, for all you people that think the taser does not take you down, you are a god modder.) The problem is that god modding tends to be subtle. It's not outright power gaming since you are not telling the other person what the results of your actions are, and it's not meta gaming since you are not using ooc info in your ic rp. This makes most people afraid to go to admins because they are not sure what to complain about. Unless people are logging their chat, the admins can't do anything about this. (See my post on local chat logging for details and instructions) So this thread is meant to discuss god modding and maybe solutions to fight it. Please do not name people in this thread. Report them to the Admins instead. |
