Let me get straight to the point: I'd like to raise a few issues concerning DE and I'll suggest possible solutions to those. I've encountered several Denizens who agreed with me on the following issue.

Problem:
The quality (seriousness) and quantity of crimes on DE are way too high. There's an inflationary effect: The crime rate is so high and our criminals are so blatantly overpowered that whatever happens doesn't really matter anymore. If outrageousness is a daily occurence it's not outrageous anymore. I think we should put some mechanism(s) in place to make sure we maintain a certain balance.
How do we make shit count?

Solution:
1. Introduction of the death penalty.
According a catalogue of criteria, if you commit X you can get a death penalty, which means: you lose your role and possibly your avatar. This would result in several improvements: the entity of crime becomes relevant, breaking the law can become risky, suddenly there are incentives for good guys, police work, investigations, journalism etc, it could even result in some sort of legal system. (trails, judges, lawyers); several new RP possiblities: for instance public executions, public trials, jail visits, etc.
It would also boost politics and make political roles way more incisive.

2. More variation in jail sentences.
From 1 day up to 2 weeks or so depending on the crime in question. Effects: see 1.

Now I'm aware these changes might raise new problems, but those can be dealt with later.
Again, these are just suggestions, they're primarily meant to kick off a discussion, IF there's any need for that at all.
