hitomi-heronsaidOne of the big no-no's (that is the scientific term mind you) in nearly all roleplay is no god-modding. Part of this is not roleplaying like your character knows something IC that they shouldnt. One of the most common forms of this is addressing a character your character has never met by name without IC finding out what their name is though this one can just be a rookie mistake and or an oversight and I dont think most people get hung up over it, I certainly dont. More serious though is when you do things like instantly realize a cop is undercover or start being able to hear and see through walls or when you start reading peoples minds via emote. Personally I take a lot of care to make sure my character roleplays finding out information, like if she overhears someone called by name ill make a note on that person's account that I know their name as whatever they were called (led to a few humorous roleplays where Hitomi used a nick name that the other guy didnt like). Certain things like a character's name and job are fairly easy to find out IC or you can even say you found out their name and such via a classified ad, which brings me to my main question: Should information from stories, articles, or classified Ads be considered IC? I mean can you say your character found out that so and so was arrested by reading the police blotter (in real life arrest records are public records) or find out that so and so is starting a new business and is hiring because of an article in the paper? |
