Sunraye Homeless Services
By Nikolai Niekerk

TYPE: Homeless Services

SLURL: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Dead%20End/195/174/45

BACKGROUND: This is a joint proposal. The proposed business would be run IC by Nikolai Niekerk and Roxy Niekerk. (Roxy Hillburton) The Sunraye Homeless Services is the outreach of the 8 bed shelter that the Niekerk family runs in Dead Drop. As such it will offer services for the homeless. These include temporary accommodation in the form of beds in the shelter and assistance to find work, or permanent accommodation. The organization will also provide assistance with any day to day issues homeless people in Dead End face, including help with legal issues, where possible. The main purpose of the Homeless Services is to represent and help the homeless people of Dead End. However, we are talking about the Niekerk family. Nothing is as innocent as it seems! Whilst the Homeless Services operates on some legal ground, they are more than happy to exploit their residents. They will try to IC’ly make deals and connections with criminal organizations. These connections will become useful as the Homeless Services itself is not simply a charitable organization, but also a front for human trafficking and other nefarious criminal activities. Essentially the idea behind the shelter is to identify the most vulnerable homeless people, such as people who have no papers, drug addicts, or people whom no one will miss or look for etc. These residents will be exploited in various ways (human trafficking, provided drugs for a price through existing dealers in the sim, forced into prostitution through existing prostitution rackets in Dead End where possible, etc.) The Homeless Services will be interested in working in association with gangs that can provide them with drugs or security. In addition to supplying the residents of the shelter with drugs for profit, they would also be interested in purchasing ‘date rape’ drugs for more convenient ‘disappearing’ of any human trafficking victims. This is in addition to any other drugs that they might want to buy from the various gangs and drug dealers. Whilst the organization has an illegal side to its operations, and it is where its operating profits come from, there is a legitimate side to it, and the shelter will legitimately try and help the homeless who are not vulnerable enough to be exploited. Roxy and Nikolai will attempt to work with other DE Businesses, whether it's getting good deals on food, donations, or providing opportunities or services for the homeless. The Homeless Services would work as a good starting point for people who come to Dead End for the first time, or on a new character. It could be somewhere to use as a springboard for success in business or criminal world, or somewhere to plummet your character into the depths of despair and depravity. This proposal offers a lot of RP opportunities for a lot of different types of people and it is very inclusive. It works for the new players who come to the sim as they will have services in place to help them IC, and that could help them get an IC foothold in the RP. The Niekerks would approach many different business owners IC’ly. For example they would contact the owners of businesses that sell food to try and get cheaper deals and charitable coupons for food and goods for the homeless that either stay in the shelter or that access the Homeless Services. They would want to work with realtors to get their shelter residents into permanent accommodation. They can contact other business owners for charitable cash donations, which could help those businesses to ‘look good’ IC. They can make links with the business owners for IC jobs that could be roleplayed. They can connect with the criminal underbelly of the sim, meet dealers so that they can buy drugs off the local DE dealers in order to sell them to them drug using population of the shelter. They can connect with players who are interested in buying people or the services of people. They can work with the DEPD to get people who are in a cycle of ending up in jail, then on the street and back in jail again, off the street and into a temporary, and then permanent accommodation. On the other side of the coin, the less than legitimate shelter operation will give opportunity for reporters, non corrupt police officers, city officials, protesters etc. to work against their operation. Of course, the Shelter outreach has jobs available too, starting from the Homeless Services and connecting with the homeless, to working as a staff member in the shelter itself. The Niekerks are quite happy to turn a blind eye to IC exploitation by the staff as long as it doesn’t affect their profits.

UNIQUE:

EXPERIENCE:We enjoy generating roleplay and writing interesting stories with lots of different people. We feel that we can best do this with an IC business to use as a base of operations and a central point for our storylines. We want to get more involved in the DE roleplay and create inclusive roleplay experiences for everybody. Having an IC business enables us to get involved in storylines with other officially registered businesses and DEPD. It would also enable us to better create IC events for richer stories.
