Below is the transcript of the class, i will also include the resourses handed out, well some of them. Fae: Welcome to Combat 101 for Dead End and Crack Den. This class is going to cover several topics. We are going to talk about powergaming and godmodding, how to properly post during a fight, how to exit and enter an fight. Dais: We are also going to cover post order and coming in the middle of a fight, as well as acceptable weapons and how many moves in a fight. Please understand we are just going to cover the basics, both sims have different rules in regards to weapons but the concepts are the same. Fae: Before we begin. we do have a hand out with some guideline, if you would like it please IM one of us and we will pass it to you. Also please hold any question until the end of each topic, we want to make this as informative as possible but also as quick as possible so you can get back to roleplay. Dais: Ok so lets get started. Most of you already know these terms but lets go over them again. Fae: Powergaming. This is defined as forcing actions on others, telling someone what is going to happen rather the leaving your attack open ended. For example: /me punches Dais in the face and breaks his nose Dais: This is an example of powergaming, Fae didnt allow me to decided the outcome, rather she provided it for me. Basically saying I had no choice but to take a broken nose and a punch. Fae: Right, this is how this scene should look. /me throws her fist toward Dais face attempting to break his nose Dais: /me turns his head just as her fist crashed in his cheek, he felt his eye swelling instantly. Fae: Notice how Dais took the hit, even though he moved the punch still hit, this bring us to our next topic. Godmodding. Dais: This can be especially troublesome, especially when people try to act like they can dodge everything and dont get hurt. If you are going to get into a fight, unless your opponent is dead or unconscious, you are going to get hit. Fae: Yes we do consider size and strength, a scrawny, 90 pound woman isnt necessarily going to take down a 200 pound rock of a man, but that doesnt mean she wont get in a few lucky shots. But thats another story. Dais: the point is, you dont to take the hit the person intended, as in the example before Fae was attempting to break my nose, I didnt want that so I to the punch to the side of the face or my eye, this way I am still being fair and taking the hit but not getting my nose broken, both parties are happy. Fae: this applies to every aspect of fighting. One topic I want to touch on before we move on is surprise attacks. You do not have eyes in the back of your head, or rear view mirrors on your glasses, if someone attacks you from behind you are not going to see them, so you wont be able to dodge anything really. Dais: Over all keep it realistic. You are not a super ninja, even well trained martial artists get hit in a fight, so make sure you take a few hits. Fae: I know we went over a lot, are there any questions in regards to this topic? Dais: Ok lets move on. We are going to talk about post order now and how to post in a fight, there is a lot to the topic so bare with us. Fae: Both Dead End and Crack Den promote turn based roleplay. What this means is that when you are in a group, you wait for a a response before you post. For example if Dais and I are in a scene, we would take turns posting. I would post. Then Dais would post. And so on. This way we can react to each other and nothing getting missed and it helps with the flow. Dais: Now lets say we add Kyo into the mix. He walks into the scene after Fae posts and posts in. Now its going to go Fae, Kyo, me, Fae Kyo, me. And so on. In a fight this is extremely important so you know who is hitting who and what hits you need to take and you can react appropriately. Fae: Now lets move on to combat, Both Crack Den and Dead End have their own rules for calling for back up so please make sure you read those. But we are going to talk about walking up to a fight, like if its in a bar and you want to break it up or help. Dais: ediquette states when you walk up on a fight you should wait at least one round of posts before jumping in. so the scene should look like this: Disclaimer – this is not how we really roleplay. Fae attempts throws her fist at Kyo's face Fae: as you can see dais watched for atleast one to two rounds before he jumped into the fight too, but he also made sure he followed the post order that was set. For larger scenes this can get tricky, if you cant keep up you can always IM someone in the scene, ask for the post order, where you can jump in and if you feel the need, ask for permission to jump in. Dais: this is especially important for police who are being called to a scene. The same rules apply, what a round, post you entrance – ie you walking up on the scene, next round start being a cop. So lets see the same scene again except with a cop. Fae attempts throws her fist at Kyo's face Fae: Now that we have talked about entering a scene, lets talk about exiting a scene. This is just as important especially if someone comes to break it up. The best thing to do is look for your way out, but dont leave chat range or the area until you know for sure someone isnt going to give chase. For example: fae turned as she heard the cop, letting go of kyo immediate. Dais: as you can see fae was trying to escape, but shade was able to stop her. In the scene fae could move alittle in the direction she wanted to go but she couldnt run out of chat range because of the face shade may try and stop her. Fae: Now we do understand there are times you may need to leave a scene because of time constraints and real life. If that is the case please be sure you im the other parties and come to an agreement on what to do, you can either be NPC'd and taken to jail, or you can fade to black the scene, where the scene ends and everyone goes their separate ways with an agreed outcome. Dais: so say we fade to black, ot FTB the scene, fae agrees shade can arrest her and take her to jail, so when she logs on again, fae will be in jail and can get with shade on the specifics of her sentence. Fae: are there any questions about post order or entering or leaving a scene? Dais: Lets move onto the last topic then. Lets talk about weapons. Fae: Both Crack Den and Dead End are designed to be realistic immersion roleplay sims, that being said weapon choices should be realistic. Dais: if your character is a common street thug he isnt going to have some fancy hand taser – brass knuckles, pocket knife. You can also use your surroundings, by a construction site? Grab a 2x4 on your way in. In the middle of the road? Pick up a rock or loose gravel. In a bar? Use an empty beer bottle. Fae: Most people only carry melee weapons, but there is nothing against using something that might be there, a chair instantly turns in to weapon if swung right. Just remember the cops will harass you if you have a larger weapon on you body and its exposed. And no projectile weapons are allowed with out admin approval. Dais: The idea is to keep it fair and realistic, you shouldnt have overly elaborate weapons unless you have a reason. If you are questioning it, dont use it. Fae: Are there any questions in regards to weapons? CD-ers we will not answer any questions on guns, please refer to your sim staff if you have questions. Dais: any other questions in regards to fighting, combat or weapons? |
