AnonymoussaidBarbara’s life was idyllic. She never wanted for anything, growing up in one of the finest neighborhoods, going to the most esteemed (aka. expensive) private schools. Socializing with others, whose parents were among the top of any list of the rich and famous. Barbara was Class Valor Victorian, Homecoming Queen, head cheerleader, class president and, quite possibly the most imperative, to at least her, the most popular girl in school. Everyone wanted to be her or be with her. Driving to school in her limited edition Mercedes Benz, wearing the finest clothes and shoes, a different designer dress for every event and party, Barbara had it all. It was like Snow White and Cinderella put together, but without the evil step mother or wicked sisters. There seemed to be no end in sight for the good luck Barbara had in life and there seemed to be nothing that she could not do or have. That all changed for her one fateful November morning. About to step out the front door to go to school, federal agents raided her house, the mansion on the hill. Father accused of a complex ponzi scheme, soon after commenting suicide. All her things, everything the family owned repossessed or sold at auction. What was left, her fine clothes, designer dresses, imported shoes all sold in a panic at a yard sale to gain enough money to move and find a meager place to live. Financial anguishes followed by more personal ones, forsaken by her once faithful friends and her mother, formally a beacon of strength has turned to the bottle in an effort to forget all that had been lost. Soon, even what little money they had left soon disappeared and a meager place to live soon became a slum and now even worse. Barbara now finds herself in Dead End, trying to find work, but hope remains. Some way, Somehow, Barbara has to find a way out of this place, away from all the deviants, criminals and assorted low-life’s, but to do so she may have to become one herself. Before all of this is done, she may have to do things, things she would have never have even considered before. |
