Anonymoussaid20100329 Activity: A strange coloured gentleman wandered down from the upper floor, saying goodbye to somebody. Presumably visiting a friend one one of the wards. Said "Silly old fool" as he passed. I called out "If it isn't congenital we might be able to cure that too", but he was already gone. Somebody who had passed me earlier in the street as I circled the town stopped in and obviously wanted something but seemed incapable of vocalising their needs. After a few minutes, I heard rummaging noises from the ambulance bay, then scribbling sounds, a rapid tearing noise, and the person was back with an illegible prescription. "That's actually the most genuine-looking medical handwriting I've seen all day, " I told them, "sadly I am not the dispensing person, and I can't even begin to guess what it says here." But they were gone, leaving a "When I want a second opinion I'll ask for it" hanging in the air behind them, before I had time to offer them a quick diagnosis. There might be something in the water supply causing short-term memory issues, I must find someone in the engineer's department and raise the question with them. Summary: My first proper shift at the hospital. Not uneventful, but not memorable either, that hospital title is a bit of a misnomer. My initial application was rejected because my answer to "What does the "M" in DEMH stand for?" of "'Mnesia" was rejected. Sighs, bureaucrats have no sense of humour. Talking of which, I finally got through on the phone to the previous Doctor. They seem to have gone from one hell to another, judging by their replies. When I mentioned to them the strange case of the hand in a hand that recently occurred upstairs, they ranted on that it was exactly that sort of thing that had caused their resignation. I jokingly offered a discount-rate SoH-transplant. After a few minutes I gently laid the phone down on the table and got on with the paperwork. When I filed the last sheets and returned to the desk I could still hear faint chatters coming from the earpiece. Accidentally, I dropped my clipboard on the phone and it disconnected.
