This came up in a recent discussion in a business proposal. As someone that plays a character that actively engages in brainwashing I wanted to discuss this further. Feeling that cluttering the business tread may not be the most appropriate place for this discussion I decided to start a new thread to discuss this matter.

I'm going to open quoting myself from that thread. As a player who's character actively brainwashes others consider this my perspective on the matter at the onset of the conversation. I would like to hear more about others perspective on this.

Being that myself and my faction were directly referenced in the proposal it should be clear I support this proposal.

I going to address IC brainwashing. Whenever I engage in it, the fact that it is happening and the extent that it works, and even the final results themselves, are ultimately at the discretion of the subject. When I engage in a brain washing RP, I more often than not have lengthy conversations with the player about what I would like to achieve and how I perceive the result. I see it much like a fight. I attempt something, whether it succeeds or not is up to the subject. Yes I will use subterfuge and drugs to try and manipulate memories, or just the knowledge that it was done and I was behind it. I believe that drugs like an injury are subject to consent, when regarding the lasting and short term effects. I do not brainwash someone who, with my knowledge, does not want to have their char brainwashed. In cases where I have been told that they do not want that, while I am in the midst of the attempt, I simply say it does not hold. I have had a number of people break their programing and leave the cult. ROi and shade are two good examples of this.
