steph-lowensztarksaidThe bars in dead end are easy to write off as being a place for people who've never drank a drop ordering bottle service like they are rap stars and tossing 100 dollar bills around like they are singles... and given that it is easy to underestimate the important role that the bars play in this sim. As someone that lived in Lulu's for 2 years, I can attest that many long time residents stated that I was the first real RP they got in town. I was the first person to integrate them into a scene, the first person to offer them an in... to give them a break. This isn't because I'm a saint by any stretch of the imagination. Its because bar RP is conducive to entry into any rp sim. While most people move into a new town because of a new job or a loved one, that's not the case in SL rp sims. There's no existing pool of friends or coworkers or girlfriend that already lives here to give a new immigrant a built in social group. What that leaves, for the most part, is the bar. Bars are places you can go by yourself. if its slow you can talk to the bartender. Other singletons also congregate there, not looking for anything else but conversation at times. Bonds are forged, friendships are formed. Groups of folks might invite a person by themselves to have a drink and talk. stories are swapped. the person is integrated into Dead End slowly but surely. Sometimes it takes a person a few MONTHS to figure that out, but once they are in the safe bosom of lulus or the 8s or what have you, there's a crowd. There's people that take an interest in them. Without the bars Dead End doesn't have the same kind of assured pipeline for people to meet a friendly face, to have that same kind of RP. This is particularly true now that the diner lacks a manager. There just isn't anywhere that justifies hanging out, and there's not the same kind of relaxed atmosphere that encourages socializing with strangers like a bar does. while the staff and possibly regulars might be able to transition their rp into some sort of underground tavern, new people simply do not have that luxury. nobody is walking around on the street saying "hey new guy i dont know, wanna come to our secret bar? you're not a cop right?" So please consider reopening the liquor, and consider NOT closing the bars as part of simwide rp going forward since there's not an adequate substitute for the introduction of new players to the rp. Thank you. |
