willow-howlettsaidSince I have taken over as the editor of the Dead End Daily there seems to be a little bit of confusion as to how the newspaper gets stories to report on. 1.) Notecards - We periodically receive notecards from the Police Department, Fire Department, and citizens who have been involved in an altercation, or have an ad they want to see in the newspaper. To streamline this process, we have created a form to be filled out and dropped in the drop box just inside of the newspapers offices. As far as I am aware, the majority of the newspapers stories have always come to us through notecards. The only thing new is the set form and a place to put it. Please do not give notecards directly to myself or another reporter. We are trying to make sure every story we receive gets posted, and that goal will be made easier if they are all put in to one central location. 2.) Reporter on scene - We do our best to watch 911 chat and stumble on to incidents in progress. Sadly, this can't always happen for two reasons. First, we have other roleplays we are involved in while on SIM, and at times may not be available to be on SIM even if we are online. Second, I feel that if we magically showed up on EVERY scene that is newsworthy that would be very unrealistic. 3.) Roleplay - We have reporters who are working on exposes, not based on a specific event, but involved in some other aspect of Dead End. For example, Echo has been devoting a lot of time to an ongoing series about various nefarious groups in the city. Yes, we do go out and find our own stories. That said I do realize that reporter presence on the streets has been limited as of late. This is primarily due to lack of regular journalists who are willing to devote time to writing stories to be posted on the newspaper website. We are working on recruiting more staff willing to do this. Once we get a couple more regular writers, a larger presence of reporters out working the streets and actively doing interviews and following up on notecards we receive will most certainly be seen! Also, despite the lack of physical presence on the streets we DO encourage people to come in and roleplay giving us stories along with the story notecards! Feel free to IM me, or any reporter you see to set something up, or just walk by the offices and see if someone is there! If anyone has any questions about the paper, please don’t hesitate to ask here or in IM! Thanks! |
