DE Daily

SLURL:

BACKGROUND: To me, the purpose of the Daily, OOCly, isn't just to give a synopsis of things happening in the grim undersides of the city that people may have missed, but rather, a way to bring players from all walks of life deeper into the story. Not just the veteran players (though certainly we want their exploits recorded for posterity as well), but some of the less known faces, to show how they effect this little world of hours as well. To that effect, while not only recording and writing articles on dramatic events that may have occurred, I would encourage reporters, as well as leading by example through myself, to wander the city, and get to know some of the newer or less well known players. Interview them, find out what they have going on, and find a way to bring it to light, to make them feel included in the grand scheme of things.

UNIQUE: By its nature, the Daily already stands out in that it doesn't seek patronage like a normal business, but rather seeks to report and expose the doings of others. However, it still has a chance to shine as something unique and exceptional amongst the other businesses here. Most business here thrive on people coming to them. The Daily will be quite the opposite, our RP is out in the world. Reporters will be encouraged to wander the streets, to stick their noses where they don't belong, to shake the trees and see what falls down. We can use this as a way to shake things up with RP that has become complacent or stale, a way of introducing a X factor or wildcard into things. Have a scheme running flawless? That can be fun, until it gets repetitive...what happens when your gang's leader has their picture snapped while kidnapping by a photographer hiding in a dumpster? Or if a cop gets busted selling drugs by a reporter pretending to be a junky? The skies the limit...watch your backs fellow Dead Enders ๐Ÿ˜‰

EXPERIENCE:At the risk of blowing my own horn (though I suppose that's kind of what I'm supposed to be doing here), I am a fantastic writer. Anyone who has played with me know I have an exceptional talent of the written word, describing things concisely and illustratively, while at the same time, not rambling or going on with excess prose just to fill up space. Not only am I good at it, but it is a passion of mine. I write quickly, I write eagerly. Given access to the information, I could turn out several articles myself in a week, more with the help of reporters. I am fascinated by stories, both real and fictitious, and would eagerly do everything in my power to see the amazing ones happening here in DE unraveled and shared with the world. That being said, I won't lie and say I am without my own faults. I have difficulty drumming up my own RP, starting events or engaging other people into something new with me. However, I see that as actually being a boon in this venture, as my job here would be better served by drawing attention to the RP of others, encouraging it by exposing it publically, and helping it become a public spectacle for all of us to enjoy. The other challenge I face, however, is not truly a strength in disguise. While I am a fantastic writer, computers are not my strongest suit. I can write up a storm in word, though I may need a little hand holding in learning how to post things and format them for the webpage. However, I am exceedingly intelligent and a quick study, and would learn to fill my role completely in quite the short period of time.

IDEAS:The Daily is in a unique position to interact with new players, as it doesn't require them to know about us, we can go to them. Stories about the little know faces, the bartenders, the hookers, the clerks who often times stand in the shadow of the crime lords and mob bosses, we can give them a voice in this sim. Often times people come to the Sim with fascinating backstories that never get to be utilized, mostly because no one else knows them. By interviewing new players we come across, we can bring those stories to light, so that people may act upon them. What if someone came to DE because they pissed off some Yakuza on the West Coast? A more experienced character in DE with ties to the DE may decide to come looking for them, for example, that otherwise wouldn't even know they existed.

OTHER:The nature of the Daily isn't to draw attention to itself, but to others. In order to foster that sense of mutual cooperation, I would make the grand re-opening more about advertising other factions than the Daily itself. Given the warmer summer weather, possibly some kind of open air street fair, with businesses able to set up a small booth to advertise themselves. Restaurants can be tapped to cater, bars to supply drink, etc. Likely a contest of some kind where the winner gets to have a special competition where the winner gets to have a special expose on them or their business as the paper's flagship article of its opening.
