I have this article that appeared in a 2008 issue of the Metaverse Messenger, so I thought I would share it with you all. I also have pictures, which I might post on DE Daily.

Dead End
By KATIER REITVELD
Staff writer

One thing that seems to be missing in this metropolis of run down buildings, dockyards and skyscrapers is dead ends — however, Dead End is the name of this corner of habitation.
Dead End is a free form, modern roleplay sim with a bias towards kidnap and related roleplay. However, while kidnap and capture do happen, most acts are general roleplay as you'd expect to find in any free form RP sim.
There are the police, bars, people’s homes, and so forth, and roleplayers spend a considerable amount of time developing the roleplay environment. Roleplay has to be feasible, too, so carrying visible weapons or trying to do a kidnap in front of a police officer would result in the officer attempting to arrest the perpetrator.
Dead End is owned by Sarahriever Graysmark, who said, “When I came to SL, I had no idea that it was what it is. Once I discovered that there was such a big BDSM culture here, I started looking for others who shared my Damsel In Distress fantasies and was amazed to find that there are loads here.
“So having found people to interact with, I wanted to have a place where those ‘dark’ fantasies could be explored, with the closure of drifters [Passage, another similar themed sim], which really was the best place for people like me that I had found, I started my own place, started small, thinking that only a few people might come, but pow! Things really took off.”
Initially Dead End was on a parcel on the mainland, but Graysmark was surprised by the popularity of her sim and a few weeks ago they moved to a full sim.
Graysmark is keen to emphasize that this sim is ultimately a place to act out fantasies involving kidnap, capture and related acts — often BDSM themed acts. Additionally, however, she is also keen that people roleplay in a realistic manner.
The sim's rules are minimal. Graysmark said they were “No age play, no bestiality, no killing, no mutilation, no guns that fire. Be respectful of others. That’s it in a nutshell, so within those rules, you can pretty much be whom you want as long as it’s realistic.”
Tamaria Lusch is one roleplayer enjoying the activity here. She also is an ex-Drifters roleplayer and is just starting to find her feet in Dead End.
She said, “I haven't really been into much here so far, just beginning to get involved here… it’s not easy to get into something ongoing like this, you have to build yourself into the role. [You] can't just jump in the middle of something people have been working on for some time.
“My character is that of a federal agent who sort of ended up here and made friends with a few locals, beginning to snoop into things and getting into things far over her head.”
Lusch added, “The buildings and atmosphere add to the theme, but for the most part it’s the interactions with the other characters, even if it was all just text in an old style chat room, the people here make it what it is — the scenery just adds to it and helps you sink into the overall feel.”
Lynx Debruyere found the sim through word of mouth. She is Underboss for the Mafia and much of her current roleplay, which she said she is finding highly enjoyable, is centered around the running of the Mafia as the boss is often not available.
As for her favorite parts of the sim, she said, “The coastal part of the sim is neat; I like the little junkyard they put together over there. The city itself is great, too; the buildings look really authentic and there are lots of places to hide and play.”
Debruyere describes the sim as a fun place to play and highly recommends this impressively designed sim.
