First time on duty
Dec 5th
Last evening I went on duty for the first time in Dead End. Not minutes after I was on the clock, dispatch reported a potential kidnapping at Lulu's bar. By the time I got there, all was quiet, and the locals seemed apathetic about the whole thing. At first I thought they might not have seen anything, but it wasn't that. It was a lack of concern. Officer Risk Douglas, a new acquaintance, was on scene shortly after me. I sent him one direction and scoured the streets on foot in the other, but fruitlessly. They were gone, and I couldn't even find someone who'd seen which way they went. My first call, and I failed. I'm not a beat cop or a patrolman, but old habits die hard. I should have gotten this one.
I've barely gotten to know the city at all. That's an outright lie, I don't know it at all. My Captain would be disgusted with me if he knew how I handled that.
I intended to spend my first night studying plans of the city, routes and maps, then do legwork and find all the dark and grimy holes the criminal rats like to hide in. That first night, however, was not how I planned. No rest, no place to study, and I ended up not following through.
I won't make the same mistake. I'm going to learn this city. I've been to the precinct, and requisitioned vehicles. I've been given the use of a patrol car, an under cover car, and a motorcycle. I won't be hoofing it again. I'm going to find all the dark little spaces in this city so I'll know where to look.
LULU'S BAR
I returned to the bar and grill after having no luck. Officer Douglas met me there, and we had coffee. Straightforward. A worker there... Tony, I think her name was. Massive woman. I'm surprised she isn't on the force. She's got a blunt mouth on her, though.
Douglas on the other hand. He's not go much of a mouth on him at all. I don't think I can rely on him much, but he won't be much of a danger to me either.
Alright, I just glanced at my watch. It's time to go back on duty. Wish me luck, and I'll update you on how many perps I let get away tonight.
